In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God
John 1:1

The Rich Young Ruler

16  And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

17  And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

18  He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

19  Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

20  The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?

21  Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

22  But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

This is one of the saddest stories found in the New Testament. It is NOT a parable but a true event which teaches the depth of commitment required of the child of God for security in Christ. Jesus taught us that if we would love Him we would obey Him. It is true that we are saved by Grace through Faith in the Blood of Jesus and we are justified in that Faith. Like Abraham, we believe what He tells us and it pleases God. We never draw back into unbelief lest we go into perdition. If we will continue in peace with God we must follow the demands of scripture. To deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Him is the prerequisite which He demands and clearly defines it in this story. We are not all rich. We are not all poor. We are all however commanded to obey Him regardless of our status. This young man presented his life unto our Lord with hope that he would be counted as worthy of eternal life. Undoubtedly, he was shocked to hear what Jesus told him.

This is where I discovered the Truth of what involves idolatry. The rich young man had kept the commandments from his youth up. This being just like the millions of Church members today that have kept their traditions and religious activities all of their lives. Joining a Church, being baptized, doing good for others all have become their concept of what being a child of God is. Let me be plain in speech here. We do not join the household of Faith...We are born into it. Being born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible by the Word of God that liveth and abideth forever. Being born of the Spirit is the beginning of life as a Christian. Not baptized in water but baptized into the Body of Christ by The Holy Spirit. This, the new birth comes when we deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Him. Great Possessions cannot be the only reason why we would assume the role of an idolater for there are many Godly people who are no doubt rich in earthly wealth. Having wealth or money does not make us idolaters but we, being idolaters may in fact live for nothing else but to create wealth. Remember the man Jesus spoke of who said that he had all he would ever need so he proceeded to say this I will do... I will tear down my barns and build bigger barns and say to my soul...Soul, you have all you need. Now take your rest and worry about nothing. Then abruptly The Voice speaks from Heaven and says, "Thou Fool", this day shall thy soul be required of thee... Think about it. How we spend our time, our talents, our abundance, our love and any other blessing we have or opportunity we may be given will be judged by The Almighty. His Judgement is truth. His balances are perfect. Never hold in your hand or in your heart the ability to do good for others when it's in your power to do so. If you have wealth in whatever form it may be, have also the will to share it. In contrast if wealth has you, get rid of it. It's an idol.

When Jesus spoke to this rich young man no doubt He saw the man's heart and He knew that the young man was obsessed with his wealth. When the man heard what Jesus said he went away sorrowful. His sorrow was a visible picture of his heart. Where your treasure is, there will your heart be.

St. John 14

1  Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2  In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

4  And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5  Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

1st John 5:21  Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

There is more to this that I could write, but I'll let this be a starting place to help us to learn what an idol could be.

Obedience Is Better Than Sacrifice

1 Samuel 15:22

22  And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

I have often observed the comments of this scripture in it's setting to gain a better understanding of the demise and subsequent fall of Israel's first king. In my studies there are plenty of observations to which I have become familiar with. However, my question has always been partially understood. Why would an individual with such unmerited favor be so prone to exalt himself above God's plain command ? It seems as if Saul never got it. That is, Saul never learned nor would be instructed in doing the will of Jehovah but rather, would take his position of favor only to exalt himself above the commandment given unto him. To make matters worse for himself he would imply that he had completed the commission and either not realize or not care that the very sound of his return from battle with contraband he was told to destroy screamed his disobedience and rebellion.

This is certainly applicable in todays Church. It has become very popular for certain majorities of leaders and followers to commit the very same sin and... It has a sound. The sound is inviting. It is pleasing to the carnal man. It is diverse in its elements and therefore widely accessible and accepted as good. But what good ? If God told Moses to speak to a Rock and Moses disobeyed by striking it why was this sin. Sin that denied him entrance into the very land he was leading Israel towards. Any Bible student knows that Christ suffered once for sin. Not twice. Therefore he manipulated the Word of God in anger... not good. If Jonah ended up in a great fish at the bottom of the sea was it not because of his anger and hatred of the people he was sent to warn ? He wanted God to destroy them.

In reading the Word of God I have found out that to love people and hate sin isn't hard. However, to hate people will automatically create sin in our own heart and separate us from our Creator. The youth of our day has a cliche. It is simply called "haters". I'm not sure what it means exactly but I am sure it implies something to be avoided. Thats O.K. If thats your cliche, fine but be sure of this."Haters" were included in the prayer that Jesus prayed just before he began to die. Father, forgive them. So back to Saul. He was a murderer in God's eyes. A rebel to the sick core and worse than all...He despised God's Word and proved it by his actions. Thus the most awful words in the Bible refer to Saul that, "The Spirit of the Lord departed from him and an evil spirit tormented him.He was left to consort with witches. Take this bit of Truth and think about it and the next time you are prone to give in to sin and try to justify it by doing someone a favor or helping someone in need remember that God does not need your help if you don't obey His Word.  May 15, 2014    JCP

Its happening today...All over this country and is spearheaded by the extremely enormous funding of the National Media. Christians who preach the simple Gospel that Jesus saves are now a minority. Do we really think that God is going to applaud the multiple movements based on gain and success ? Take those doctrines to the Apostle Paul and Simon Peter and Steven the Deacon and see what they say about it. Better hold fast that which thou hast as Jesus said. The shaking is going on. It will not go well for those who have built upon the sand or the rocks. Anchor your faith in the Cross and not the mind.

Strange Apparel...Zephaniah 1:8

And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD'S sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel...

The Hebrew word gives light upon this unusual statement. In the New Testament the term is "without a wedding garment" found in Matthew 22:12.The objective of my thoughts concerning this subject matter has weight. It has so much weight that only the prudent will feel the need to search it out. I encourage you each and every one to search the scriptures and examine yourselves. There are many false prophets and false teachers blasting out the corrupt doctrines born out of the depths of hell itself. There are so many people embracing these "teachings" that there is hardly any noticeable manifestations of the error from which it is spawned. We are NOT upon this earth to prepare a kingdom for the Lord's coming as some would say. Neither are we here to overpower the devil and take back the earth and universe for Christ Jesus. That was His task and He fulfilled it to the letter. We are here for this purpose: To make known the Gospel which is in Christ Jesus and has been hidden from satan from the beginning and is now made manifest to the world by the Church... The Pillar and Ground of the Truth.  Ephesions 3:1-11.

If we could see things the way God sees them we would swap ends and do that which we are stubborn in doing and likewise we would not do those things which have the power to bring us into bondage, carnality and slothfulness. People are dying every few seconds. Death is imminent unto all. Therefore we should give the more earnest heed to that which which we know to be Truth and shun the very appearance of evil. The Holy Spirit within us always directs us in the way God is pleased so therefore there should be an immediate response of obediance on our part towards His leading. He is, after all "The Spirit of Truth. His workings are as follows: To reprove the world of sin, righteousness and judgement. He makes known by the Church the Lordship of Our Resurrected Saviour. He also comforts, guides, teaches, leads and imparts powerful gifts into the Body of Christ. Would it not be awesome if we all understood what is the hope of His calling and... what is the exceeding greatness of His mighty power to us-ward which He wrought in Christ when He raised Him from the dead ? We need to remember this fact in closing this dissertation. Jesus Christ is at this moment authorizing the events which shape our lives. If we are pleasing Him, we have His Blessing and infinite mercy. However if we are failing Him in any respect, we are metaphorically sawing off the limb which we are sitting on.

All scripture is from the King James Version. We use this version because of its beauty and its piercing ability which is promised within its pages. It brings the Anointing of the Holy Spirits touch to our hearts while keeping the Truth of the original manuscripts plainly revealed and untouched.
